There has been a lot of talk about legalizing online poker in the states. I have just found out that it has happened in DC. The District of Columbia has officially passed legislation giving the DC Lottery Board the authority to legally run a real money online poker site.
I don’t really know all the details. The way I found out was for the last several days, inquiries have been rolling in on one of the domain names I hand-regged a few years ago : DcPoker.com. Honnêtement, it’s unusual for a domain to get an inquiry at all. When two or three come in at around the same time, it usually means something is up. Seven came in over the last two days. So when I did a search for “DC Poker” I got the news story.
It still hasn’t shown up on Cardplayer, so I think this must be a bit of a scoop. From what I briefly looked at, we are still a long way from seeing a legal online poker site in DC. But it’s a solid first step to wide-scale legalization and acceptance of online poker. Our game seems to be entering a new era.
